Donor Nancy Wernecke shares the "why" behind her generous gift to Haven for Special People

"I became aware of Haven on Main in the spring of 2024. I learned shortly after that the Board of Directors of Haven for Special People was working to establish an enduring living space where adults with disabilities would live independently alongside neighbors without disabilities. This will provide an integrated environment fostering a therapeutic atmosphere for both those with and without disabilities; in addition this will allow for positive interactions among the residents, creating healthy interdependent relationships among all in the community. I also learned that Haven on Main would serve residents having a broad range of income levels. The fact that Haven on Main will be built on the property that my Father, Dale Wernecke developed and where my sister and I grew up makes this especially meaningful to me.

"This location and its close proximity to the La Crosse Library, the YMCA, parks, the bus route and employment opportunities makes it especially well suited for the residents that will

be served. I can't think of a better use for this property. I am very proud to have provided the

first significant pledge for the Haven on Main capital campaign."

THANK YOU to Nancy for your generous support of Haven for Special People! Pictured is the original Wernecke sign saved from the soon to be demolished building on the future site of Haven on Main.
